About

Hi, I'm Ray McBride and I'm a web developer and martial arts enthusiast from London.

I'm the owner of this website, so firstly let me welcome you and thank you for taking time to read what I have to say.

This blog is my attempt at recording my findings, experiences and thoughts in the world of web development together with those of my love for traditional Japanese martial arts.

I have been working with the web since 2000 using a number of technologies and languages, as a free-lancer, in full time employment and in both the public and private sectors.

In 2004 I gained a MSc in Computing Science from the University of London and since then have been specializing in development using the Java programming language. Over the last couple of years I have also developed websites using the Ruby-on-Rails framework but these days tend towards Python and the Django framework.

A selected list of website I have developed can be view on the projects page.

I have been studying martial arts since I was a kid having first studied Judo and then Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu and Muay Thai. Since 1999 I have been studying Bujinkan Budo Taijustu, as taught by Soke Hatsumi, under Shihan Duncan Olby and have gained the rank of Shidoshi.

I regularly travel to Japan to train with Soke Hatsumi and his senior Japanese students and in 2008 passed the Godan test.

In 2006 I began studying Soke Hatsumi's Amatsu Tatara Hichi Buku Goshinjutsu under Shihan Peter King one of only four people in the world licensed to teach it.

I hope you enjoy my website and I welcome your comments and communications. If you wish to contact me please visit my contact page
